Job Description
We are looking for a hands-on Farm Manager who can both work the land and write the playbook. You will design and run Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for soil fertility and pest/disease management, plan cropping so harvests match market and box demand, and keep day-to-day operations organised. Key responsibilities: Fertility and soil health Design and document SOPs for compost, compost teas, animal manures, green manures, cover crops, mulching, and other on-farm fertility sources. Plan crop rotations and intercrops that build soil rather than mine it. Arrange and interpret soil tests; keep simple records of organic matter, structure, and input use. Train and supervise farm workers on these practices. Pest, disease and weed management (regenerative / agroecological) Write and implement SOPs for scouting, thresholds, and non-chemical control (habitat for beneficial insects, traps, botanicals such as neem, ash, intercropping, sanitation, resistant varieties). Keep spray/application logs only for approved biological or botanical products. Reduce pest pressure through diversity, timing, and field hygiene rather than calendar spraying. Production planning for markets and veggie boxes Build a seasonal crop plan and planting calendar so harvests match farmers’ market days and weekly box contents. Forecast volumes, stagger plantings, and manage succession so boxes stay full and varied. Coordinate harvest, grading, packing, and cold-chain or same-day delivery. Track what sells, what wastes, and adjust the plan each season.
