How to hire a call center agent

Screen by voice first
The first filter should be a phone or voice-note screen, not the resume. Diction, pace, and how the candidate organizes an answer out loud are exactly what customers will hear.

Be upfront about schedules and metrics
Attrition in call centers tends to be highest in the first weeks. Explaining shifts, break rules, and the metrics agents are measured on before the offer reduces early resignations noticeably.

Test typing while listening
A good exercise is playing a recorded call and asking the candidate to write the case notes at the same time. It measures the multitasking the job actually demands.

Certify language level properly
For bilingual accounts, self-reported fluency is unreliable. A live conversation with a fluent evaluator, covering an unscripted topic, shows real comprehension and how easily the candidate is understood, before a customer on the account finds out.

Look at stability, not only skills
A resume with many call center jobs of two or three months each suggests the pattern will repeat. It is worth asking what made the candidate stay at the place they stayed longest.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a call center agent make in the Philippines?

The median of the jobs posted on Saplic over the last 6 months is ₱24,375 per month, and the typical range runs from ₱21,875 to ₱30,875. This is a market benchmark, not an official figure.

What requirements are typical for a call center agent in the Philippines?

The most common ones in job postings are: high school diploma or equivalent; clear diction and good spelling; fluency in a second language for bilingual accounts; typing speed and ease navigating several applications at once.

Do call center agents need previous experience?

For most customer service campaigns, no. Clear communication, patience, and reliable attendance matter more, and product knowledge is covered in initial training. Experience becomes relevant for technical support, collections, or sales campaigns, where the agent needs specific techniques and the ramp-up time for a beginner is considerably longer.

How can turnover among call center agents be reduced from the hiring stage?

By describing the job as it really is: shifts, metrics, call volume, and the type of customers. Candidates who accept with full information stay longer. It also helps to check commuting distance or home setup for remote roles, and to ask about the longest job the candidate has held and why.

How much does it cost to post call center agent jobs on Saplic?

Nothing. Posting the job is free and no credit card is required. The recruiting system for organizing the people who apply is free too.
