- Responsibilities
Contribute to the review, development and enhancement of legislation, regulatory frameworks, policies and guidelines to ensure alignment with evolving central banking mandates, technological advancements and international best practices relating to financial technologies, digital financial services, digital currencies and innovation-driven financial sector developments.
Recommend policy responses to emerging financial technology trends, including responses to sandboxed innovations.
Periodically collect, analyse, compile and disseminate data and intelligence on fintech, digital currencies and emerging digital services developments in Botswana, the region and globally.
Monitor, analyse and evaluate domestic and international trends, risks and developments in financial technologies, digital currencies, digital financial services and emerging innovations.
Undertake research and policy analysis on fintechs, digital currencies and related innovations, and draft research papers, policy proposals, discussion papers and recommendations to support evidence-based policy formulation and decision-making.
Compile policy recommendations and reports based on stakeholder engagements and awareness programmes, including the annual Fintech Festival.
Draft articles on selected topics relating to financial technologies and innovations for the Bank’s internal and/or external publications.
Collate information on financial technologies and innovation strategies and initiatives for dissemination to local, regional and international organisations through the relevant structures.
Participate in stakeholder consultations, workshops, working groups and industry engagements relating to fintech, digitilisation and innovations.
Provide guidance to fintechs and users from other departments on the application and interpretation of legislations, regulations, guidelines, policies and directives pertaining to financial technologies and innovations.
Participate in training of relevant stakeholders on financial technologies and innovation policies, procedures and requirements.
Participate in the implementation of departmental, institutional and cross-functional strategic projects and initiatives relating to policy development, digitilisation and innovation.
- Requirements
Master’s degree in Fintech, Business Innovation, Business Information Systems, Finance, Banking, Business Administration and Commerce or any other related field. Experience in the financial sector, policy development, financial regulation and supervision, digital financial services, fintech, payments, financial stability, financial markets, research, strategy innovation or a related field will be an added advantage.

Bachelor’s degree in Fintech, Business Innovation, Business Information Systems, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Accounting, Banking and Commerce or any other related discipline, plus at least two (2) years’ experience in the financial sector, policy development, financial regulation and supervision, digital financial services, fintech, payments, financial stability, financial markets, research, strategy innovation or a related field.
