How is severance calculated in Botswana?

One day’s basic pay for each completed month during the first 60 months of service, then two days’ basic pay for each completed month beyond that.

Do I get severance if I am on a pension?

No. Severance is payable only where the worker is not registered with the social insurance system. Those receiving a pension or gratuity, or both, are not eligible.

Does my employer need a reason to terminate my contract?

Not a specific stated reason. Either party may end the contract with minimum notice or payment in lieu, except in cases of serious misconduct.

Does a disciplinary procedure still apply?

Yes. Before dismissal other than summary dismissal for serious misconduct, the employer must give notice of the charges and an opportunity to respond.
