Help strengthen Aboriginal languages in education across the Northern Territory!

  • Lead systemic work to improve outcomes in Aboriginal language education, including bilingual programs.
  • Collaborate with educators and schools to shape curriculum, resources and professional learning.
  • Be part of a team delivering high-impact initiatives in culturally responsive education.

The Northern Territory Department of Education and Training is committed to delivering quality education for all learners from early years to adulthood. The agency promotes equity, cultural responsiveness and innovation through strategic initiatives that support students, schools and communities across urban, regional and remote contexts. Our vision is for all Territorian kids to learn the skills and capabilities to contribute to our economic and social future

As a Teaching and Learning Coach you will provide support to school in teaching, learning and assessment to improve learning outcomes and post-school pathways for students in Northern Territory schools, with a primary focus on strengthening the teaching and learning of Aboriginal languages and culturally responsive learning within the Northern Territory Learning and Teaching Model (NTLTM). You will coach and mentor school staff to deliver differentiated and explicit curriculum that is flexible and responsive to school contexts.

In this role, you will use data literacy practices to inform and implement professional learning to achieve organisation outcomes. You will aid schools to implement implementation of the Australian Curriculum (AC), the Northern Territory Indigenous Languages and Cultures curriculum, the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) and the use of the NTLTM.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An understanding of strategic policy and practice associated with the AC, the NTCET and languages pedagogy, including application of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices to meet diverse student needs.
  • Proven leadership of curriculum delivery for learners in remote, regional and/or urban contexts, demonstrating success in improving outcomes through evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring to implement evidence-based, differentiated approaches in school contexts with a focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within and across teams and networks in a variety of educational contexts to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • High level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including cross-cultural skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of stakeholders, including those in corporate, urban and remote contexts, to maximise organisational performance.
  • Experience in leading and evaluating professional learning for evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning including curriculum, pedagogy and quality assessment processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to own professional development.

This is a rare opportunity to experience all the Territory has to offer – deep connection to country, community, language and culture – and to make lasting impact in schools.
