Location: Edmonton, AB — Primarily Remote within Canada

Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst – Intermediate to support strategic data initiatives and the development of analytical data products and services.

This role will work within a multidisciplinary team focused on data analysis, data modelling, business intelligence, visualization, data quality, governance, and data product design. The successful candidate will translate complex data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, operational planning, and executive reporting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize advanced Power BI solutions using complex and regulated datasets.
• Develop dashboards, reports, KPIs, analytical models, and other data products.
• Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends and support predictive analytics and forecasting.
• Gather, understand, and document business and analytical requirements.
• Translate business requirements into analytical and BI solutions.
• Develop data models and integrate data from multiple sources and domains.
• Perform data analysis, data quality reviews/audits, statistical analysis, and data mining.
• Develop complex Power BI measures, calculated columns, and advanced time intelligence using DAX.
• Use SQL for data transformation, querying, and analytical processing.
• Capture business and technical metadata for data products.
• Present data-driven findings and communicate insights effectively to executive and business stakeholders.
• Combine quantitative and qualitative information to develop meaningful business insights.
• Work within a multi-vendor/staff environment and escalate issues and risks as appropriate.

Must Have Primary Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and optimizing advanced Power BI solutions.
• 5+ years of experience using Power BI visualization techniques and features for data storytelling.
• 5+ years of experience analyzing large and complex datasets for trend analysis, predictive analytics, and forecasting using Power BI and Azure analytics tools.
• 5+ years of experience presenting and communicating data-driven insights to executives and business users within a government organization.
• 5+ years of experience understanding and developing requirements for analytical projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; equivalent education may be considered.

Nice To Have Secondary Skills

• 5+ years translating business requirements into end-to-end analytical/BI solutions.
• 5+ years working with data from multiple sources and across different domains.
• 5+ years working directly with clients and explaining complex data principles to non-technical stakeholders.
• 5+ years developing complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and advanced time intelligence.
• 3+ years of hands-on SQL experience in large-scale environments.
• 5+ years preparing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models.
• 3+ years working with large government datasets.

Work Arrangement

The position is expected to be primarily remote within Canada, with the possibility of up to 15% onsite meetings in Edmonton, Alberta.

Candidates must be able to work from within Canada due to network and data security requirements.

Additional Information

• Standard hours are 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta time, Monday to Friday, excluding provincial holidays.
• A standard background check, including a criminal record check, will be required.
• Successful candidates will complete mandatory security and privacy training.
• This is a contract opportunity running from October 5, 2026 to April 30, 2027.
