REGISTERED NURSE — SURGICAL — DAY HOSPITAL

• Responsibilities

Conduct individualised pre-operative assessment and verify consent, site marking and the surgical safety checklist

• Perform treatments as ordered by the surgeon accurately and in a timely manner
• Document assessment findings, interventions and progress accurately and maintain confidentiality

Provide scrub and circulating (runner) support during procedures, maintaining strict aseptic technique and accurate counts

• Manage the patient at post-operative and recovery stages, including wound and drain care and pain management
• Participate in the infection-control programme and analyse data in post-operative management
• Provide anaesthetic support: assist the anaesthetist with induction, monitoring and recovery
• Requirements

Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.

Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana with a valid practising certificate.

BLS/ACLS certification; experience in an operating-theatre environment.

• Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate
• Evidence of theatre / peri-operative nursing experience
• Post-basic qualification in peri-operative / theatre or anaesthetic nursing (desirable)
• Previous staff-management experience (desirable)
