JOB TITLE QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER NATURE OF JOB FULL TIME INDUSTRY FOOD MANUFACTURING SALARY KSHS.40,000-60,000 JOB LOCATION MLOLONGO
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Quality Assurance & Product Inspection • Monitor all stages of the bakery production process to ensure compliance with established quality standards. • Conduct routine inspections of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products. • Verify that products meet defined specifications for appearance, texture, taste, weight, packaging, and shelf life. • Identify non-conforming products and coordinate corrective actions. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and company quality standards. • Support the implementation and maintenance of HACCP and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems. • Monitor sanitation and hygiene practices throughout the production facility. • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory food safety requirements. Laboratory Testing & Quality Monitoring • Conduct physical, chemical, and microbiological tests as required. • Monitor critical control points (CCPs) and production parameters. • Verify calibration of laboratory and quality testing equipment. • Maintain accurate testing records and analyze quality trends. Raw Material & Supplier Quality Control • Inspect incoming raw materials, ingredients, and packaging materials for quality compliance. • Verify supplier quality documentation and certificates where applicable. • Report and follow up on non-conforming materials with procurement and suppliers. • Support supplier quality evaluations and audits. Documentation & Reporting • Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, laboratory results, and corrective action logs. • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality performance reports. • Document deviations, customer complaints, investigations, and corrective actions. • Ensure quality documentation is complete and audit-ready. Process Improvement • Investigate quality issues and identify root causes. • Recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve product quality and process efficiency. • Monitor product consistency and reduce waste, rework, and customer complaints. • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across production operations. Training & Staff Support • Train production staff on quality standards, food safety, hygiene, and quality procedures. • Promote a culture of food safety and continuous quality improvement. • Provide technical guidance on quality-related matters during production. Audits & Compliance • Participate in internal and external quality audits. • Support regulatory inspections and customer audits. • Ensure timely closure of audit findings and corrective actions. • Monitor compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION • Degree in Food Science & Technology or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years' experience in quality control within the bread, bakery, or flour manufacturing industry. • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and quality management systems. • Preferred Certifications • HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) • ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training is an added advantage.
