Job Description
JOB TITLE PASTRY CHEF / BAKER NATURE OF JOB FULL TIME INDUSTRY HOSPITALITY SALARY KSHS. 25,000-28,000 JOB LOCATION RUIRU
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, muffins, cookies, donuts, pies, desserts, and other baked products according to established recipes and standards.
  • Decorate cakes, pastries, and desserts to ensure attractive presentation and consistency.
  • Prepare fillings, creams, icings, toppings, sauces, and other pastry components.
  • Ensure all products are fresh, properly stored, and displayed in an appealing manner.
  • Monitor baking times, temperatures, and ingredient measurements to maintain product quality.
  • Assist in planning daily production schedules based on customer demand and stock levels.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bakery, kitchen, storage, and workstations at all times.
  • Adhere strictly to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Inspect ingredients and finished products to ensure quality control standards are met.
  • Operate bakery equipment such as ovens, mixers, proofers, and slicers safely and efficiently.
  • Minimize wastage through proper handling and storage of ingredients and finished products.
  • Assist in stock-taking and report low stock levels or equipment maintenance issues promptly.
  • Support the team during busy hours and ensure timely preparation of customer orders.
  • Contribute ideas for new pastry items, seasonal products, and menu improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and airport operational standards where applicable.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a busy restaurant, supermarket, bakery, café, or hotel bakery.
  • Experience in preparing desserts, confectioneries, pastries, and baked foods.
  • Basic knowledge of food production, baking techniques, and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and creativity in presentation.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certificate or training in pastry/baking is an added advantage.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
