About the organisation

Culture is Life is an Aboriginal-led not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to thrive and flourish, strong in knowing who they are, where they come from and who they are connected to. At the heart of its work is the understanding that culture is a powerful protective factor, strengthening identity, belonging, social and emotional wellbeing, and connection to Country and community.

Working alongside young people, Elders, communities and partners, Culture is Life delivers culturally grounded programs, resources and campaigns that amplify young people’s voices and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led solutions. Its work includes youth leadership initiatives such as Fullaship, educational resources and social-impact campaigns, with a strong focus on strengthening culture and contributing to the prevention of youth suicide.

Guided by Aboriginal leadership and cultural integrity, Culture is Life is committed to creating lasting change so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people can be strong in culture, connected to Country and community, and supported to thrive

About the role

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will provide culturally grounded, strategic and operational leadership across Culture is Life’s people, programs, partnerships and organisational sustainability. The CEO will ensure the organisation remains Aboriginal-led and grounded in self-determination and cultural integrity, with the voices, leadership and experiences of young people central to its work and decision-making.

A key priority will be driving fundraising and income development to strengthen Culture is Life’s long-term financial sustainability. Building on existing relationships, the CEO will cultivate enduring partnerships across philanthropy, government and corporate Australia, while acting as a visible and influential ambassador for Culture is Life with young people, Elders, communities, funders and the broader sector.

This is a unique opportunity for an influential leader to build on strong foundations and lead Culture is Life into its next chapter of growth, sustainability and impact.
