Have you worked in a remote Aboriginal community – and love this work?
Milindji Aboriginal Corporation is looking for a capable, practical person to help strengthen its operations and grow its Yolngu-owned social enterprises in Gapuwiyak. This could be an exciting next step for someone with experience in business, finance, administration, community development or managing a small organisation.
You will work in partnership with Milindji’s Yolngu Coordinator, who brings strong local relationships, cultural and community knowledge, interpreting skills and practical support on the ground. Together, you will support Milindji’s Directors to build a strong and sustainable corporation.
About Milindji
Milindji was established by the Gupapuyngu: Liyalanmirri–Marrkula Traditional Owners to create economic opportunities and community benefits for Yolngu people.
Its current activities include Ngaduŋgay Tourism, which offers cultural tours, and the development of a mechanical services business.
About the role
Your role will focus mainly on the business and organisational side of Milindji’s work. Depending on your skills and experience, this may include:
- managing budgets and working with Milindji’s accountant and bookkeeper
- coordinating financial reports, grants and acquittals
- establishing practical office, IT and administrative systems
- supporting the Directors with governance and planning
- working with partners and other stakeholders
- helping to develop Milindji’s tourism and mechanical services businesses.
The role offers plenty of variety and the opportunity to contribute your ideas and experience as Milindji continues to develop.
About you
You will bring experience working respectfully with Aboriginal people, ideally while living and working in a remote community. Previous experience with Yolngu people or in the Yolngu cultural context would be an advantage, but is not essential.
You do not need to be an expert in every part of the role. Milindji is interested in hearing from people who can offer a useful combination of:
- business, financial or organisational management skills;
- clear and respectful communication;
- balanced, good judgement and a practical approach;
- the ability to build effective working relationships; and
- resourcefulness and flexibility.
A current driver’s licence is required. You will also need to hold, or be willing to obtain, the relevant checks and certificates for the role.
Location and package
Living in Gapuwiyak is preferred, but Milindji is open to discussing practical arrangements with the right person. The role may suit someone already based in Nhulunbuy, someone interested in moving to Gapuwiyak, or potentially someone who could travel from Darwin as a short-term arrangement prior to relocating.
Accommodation for a single person or couple is expected to become available. Limited relocation assistance may also be available.
The position is four days or 30 hours per week. The package includes:
- base salary $87,126 (for 30 hours part time) (SCHADS Level 5 paypoint 3)
- 12% superannuation;
- six weeks’ annual leave, provided pro rata;
- annual leave loading and salary-sacrifice options;
- an annual airfare allowance;
- an accommodation subsidy; and
- access to a work vehicle.
Interested?
If the role interests you but you are unsure whether your experience or circumstances are the right fit, we encourage you phone Sally on 0418 761 036 for an informal and confidential conversation.
Please send your CV and a brief cover letter of no more than two pages to Sally Clifford via the 'Apply Now' button.
