JOB TITLE ASSISTANT BAKER

NATURE OF JOB FULL TIME

INDUSTRY FOOD MANUFACTURING

SALARY KSHS.20,000-25,000

JOB LOCATION MLOLONGO


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Production & Baking

· Assist in the preparation and baking of bread, buns, pastries, cakes, and other bakery products.

· Accurately measure, weigh, and mix ingredients according to approved recipes.

· Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, and toppings as instructed.

· Operate baking ovens, mixers, proofers, and other bakery equipment safely and efficiently.

· Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure product quality and consistency.

Product Quality Control

· Ensure all bakery products meet established quality standards for taste, texture, appearance, and weight.

· Inspect products during and after baking to identify defects or inconsistencies.

· Report quality issues to the Head Baker or Production Supervisor promptly.

· Minimize product wastage through careful preparation and handling.

Food Safety & Hygiene

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the bakery production area.

· Comply with food safety regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and company hygiene procedures.

· Follow proper food handling and storage practices to prevent contamination.

· Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain personal hygiene standards.

Ingredient & Inventory Support

· Assist in receiving, checking, and storing baking ingredients and supplies.

· Monitor ingredient levels and notify supervisors when replenishment is required.

· Ensure ingredients are stored correctly to maintain freshness and quality.

· Support stock rotation using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles.

Equipment Maintenance

· Clean bakery equipment, utensils, and workstations after use.

· Perform basic equipment checks before and after production.

· Report equipment faults or maintenance issues immediately.

· Ensure equipment is used safely and according to operating procedures.

Production Planning & Teamwork

· Follow daily production schedules and work orders to meet customer demand.

· Work collaboratively with the Head Baker and production team to achieve production targets.

· Assist with packaging and preparation of finished products for dispatch where required.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and product quality.


KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

· Certificate or Diploma in Baking, Food Production, Culinary Arts, or a related field is an added advantage.

· Minimum of 3 years' baking experience in a commercial bakery or commercial kitchen.

· Demonstrated knowledge of baking techniques, ingredient handling, and commercial baking processes.

· Strong knowledge of baking methods and food preparation techniques.

· Ability to accurately follow recipes and production schedules.

· Good understanding of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
