Job Description
  • Responsibilities

teach courses in Sedimentology & Stratigraphy, Sedimentary Petrology and Geological field mapping at undergraduate and graduate levels;

Provide sound teaching and professional practice that fosters academic growth and ensures quality learning outcomes.

  • Supervise both graduate undergraduate students thesis in sedimentology;
  • Conduct research in their area of specialization as well as in multidisciplinary areas;
  • Provide service to the community in the line of their specialization, and

Regularly review curricula to maintain relevance across local and global contexts, engaging students, stakeholders, and peers.

Ensure clear alignment between learning outcomes, teaching activities, and assessment methods.

Drive grant proposal development to sustain research momentum.

Provide leadership and participate in Faculty committees. Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Departmental Chair from time to time.

  • Requirements

A PhD in Sedimentology.

A Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related discipline, with a 2.1 pass or equivalent.

A minimum of three (3) years of relevant teaching experience at a University or a comparable institution .

Be registered (or be eligible for registration) with BQA and/or a recognised professional body in relevant area of expertise.

Have an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases; keynote stained research output: a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every two years;

  • scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences;
  • be lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles ;
  • publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals;

some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 1 of the these);

recognized as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; Editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field;

  • A key note speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of the these);

evidence of governance and social engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability to secure high value research grants and funding
  • Sustained research activity: on-going internally and/or externally supported research;
  • Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate;
  • Being an examiner/ moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects;
  • Evidence of extensive experience in the Stratigraphic/Sedimentology sectors; and

Effective and experience in running a program/course.

The curriculum vitae (CV) should include a detailed list of publications, clearly specifying the titles of publications, the publication dates, the name(s) of the publisher(s), and the name(s) of co-authors, if any. Publications should be categorized into books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
