We are seeking a detail-oriented and process-driven professional to join our team as a Payroll Officer. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, you will help ensure payroll operations are accurate, compliant, and aligned with company policies and statutory requirements.

Payroll Officer.

In this role, the incumbent will support the fortnightly payroll process by verifying payroll information, maintaining payroll records, preparing payroll schedules, assisting with statutory payroll activities, and responding to employee payroll queries. Working closely with internal stakeholders, The Payroll Officer will help ensure payroll operations are efficient, compliant with company policies, and aligned with all applicable statutory requirements.

  • About this role

Reporting to the Supervisor- Payroll, this supporting role will provide you with the opportunity to:

Process fortnightly and monthly payrolls accurately and within established deadlines using approved payroll information received by Human Resources and operational departments.

Verify payroll information against approved supporting documentation, including timesheets, leave records, payroll adjustment forms, deduction requests, and other authorized payroll instructions.

Process employee payroll additions, terminations, salary adjustments, allowances, deductions, and other payroll changes only upon receipt of the appropriate written approvals.

Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential payroll records, including employee payroll files, payroll registers, and supporting documentation.

Prepare statutory and third-party payroll deduction schedules to facilitate timely payment.

Assist in preparing payroll journals and supporting documentation following each payroll cycle.

Assist with the preparation and submission of statutory payroll returns and related reports within prescribed deadlines.

  • Assist with payroll reconciliations and investigate discrepancies for review by the Payroll Supervisor

Assist with payroll bank reconciliations and ensure payroll-related banking transactions are accurately recorded.

Respond promptly and professionally to employee payroll enquiries, escalating complex issues where appropriate.

Support internal and external payroll audits by preparing payroll records and supporting documentation as requested.

Ensure payroll activities comply with Company policies, payroll procedures, and applicable statutory requirements.

Assist with payroll testing, system updates, and process improvements as required.

Assist in preparing and maintaining payroll-related schedules, including Salary Payable/Clearing Account, Payroll Clearing Schedule, Salary Advances, NIS and other statutory payable schedules, Staff Loan Schedule, Pension and other payroll deduction schedules.

  • Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

Sound knowledge of payroll principles and payroll administration.

Working knowledge of Jamaica’s payroll legislation and statutory requirements.

Strong numerical aptitude and analytical skills.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and payroll software.

Ability to work under pressure and consistently meet payroll deadlines.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications & Experience:

Associate degree or Diploma in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Payroll certification would be an asset.

Minimum of two (2) years' experience in payroll processing or a similar accounting role.

Experience using computerized payroll systems.

Working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory deductions.
