About the Role:
The Human Resources Officer is a generalist people operations role responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle at LIG - from recruitment and onboarding through to performance management, employee relations, training, compliance, and separation. Reporting to the HR Manager, the role serves as a key point of contact for employees and managers across all departments, ensuring that HR practices are consistent, compliant, equitable, and well-administered.
- SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
Manage end-to-end recruitment for assigned vacancies including advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, reference checks, and offer processing
Coordinate and execute structured onboarding and offboarding programmes for all new hires and exiting employees
Serve as a first point of contact for employee queries, grievances, and disciplinary matters in accordance with LIG’s procedures and Jamaican labour law
Administer LIG’s performance management cycle including probationary reviews, mid-year assessments, and annual appraisals
Coordinate the annual Training Needs Assessment and manage the LIG Learning Academy calendar, training records, and budget
Prepare and submit accurate payroll input files and administer employee benefits including health, life insurance, and pension
Maintain and update the LIG Employee Handbook, HR policies, and ensure compliance with all applicable Jamaican employment legislation
Maintain accurate and current employee data in the HRIS and prepare regular HR reports on headcount, turnover, absence, and recruitment
- Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programmes, staff events, and welfare activities
Support the implementation of LIG’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programme and maintain compliance documentation
- QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
The position requires the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an HR Generalist or broad HR Officer role
- Proven track record in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance
Familiarity with Jamaican labour law including LRIDA, Employment (T&R) Act, Maternity Leave Act, Minimum Wage Order, and OSHA
- Experience with HRIS platforms and payroll systems is preferred
- Prior exposure to a distribution, retail, manufacturing, or industrial business environment is an asset
- KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
The position requires the following knowledge/skills:
- Strong working knowledge of the full employee lifecycle from recruitment to separation
- Ability to conduct disciplinary investigations and prepare clear, defensible HR documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HR reporting tools
- High level of discretion, integrity, and confidentiality in handling sensitive HR matters
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation
- Empathetic, fair-minded, and consistent in the application of HR policies and procedures
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a high-volume, multi-task workload
