- OVERVIEW
- Compassion International is inviting applications for the position of
- National Director
. The successful candidate will provide strategic, operational, and spiritual leadership for Compassion's ministry in Malawi. The role is responsible for strengthening partnerships, overseeing programme implementation, ensuring child protection, supporting marketing initiatives, and providing overall leadership to achieve Compassion's mission of serving vulnerable children through local churches.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership
Provide overall leadership and direction for Compassion's operations in Malawi.
Translate organisational strategy into effective programmes and measurable results.
Lead growth strategies aligned with Compassion's global objectives.
Promote strong partnerships with local churches and other stakeholders.
- External Representation
Serve as the legal representative of Compassion in Malawi.
Build and maintain relationships with government, donors, suppliers, and development partners.
Represent Compassion at national and international engagements.
- Staff Leadership
Provide spiritual leadership and promote Compassion's organisational values.
Lead, mentor, and develop staff to achieve ministry goals.
Foster collaboration across departments and support staff development.
- Programme Management
Oversee programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning.
Ensure quality programme delivery through strong partnerships with local churches.
Support local resource mobilisation initiatives.
- Child Protection
Ensure full implementation of child safeguarding and protection policies.
Lead child protection strategies, risk management, and safeguarding compliance.
Promote child protection awareness throughout all programmes and operations.
- Operations and Governance
Oversee budgeting, legal compliance, and adherence to organisational policies.
Manage employment matters and provide oversight of country operations.
Work closely with support services to achieve strategic objectives.
- Marketing and Partnerships
Collaborate with marketing teams to support organisational visibility and growth.
Support marketing initiatives that strengthen donor engagement and organisational impact.
- Requirements
- QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Education
Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Experience
Minimum of five (5) years' senior leadership experience in a related field.
- Certifications
Certification from a nationally or internationally recognised professional organisation in a related field.
Equivalent education, training, and/or certification may be considered.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience in programme management and organisational leadership.
Strong understanding of child safeguarding and protection principles.
Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
Ability to lead teams and manage organisational change.
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Faith
Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Working Environment
Standard office environment.
- Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours per day.
- Travel
Willingness to travel up to 30% of the normal work schedule.
