Job Description
  • Responsibilities

Ensure the strategic direction of the UNDP Governance Programme – governance/political analysis, contribute to CA/UNSDCF/CPD, identify strategic areas of cooperation, operationalise the Governance aspect of UNSDCF/CPD

Manage the CO Governance Programme – RBM tools, strategic oversight of planning, budgeting, implementation and monitoring; may perform Manager Level 2 in Quantum for development project approvals; effective follow-up to audit recommendations

Lead formulation of Governance projects and programmes – support implementation of ongoing CPD activities, design new initiatives around justice sector reform, legal empowerment, human rights, anti-corruption, institutional strengthening

Provide policy advice on justice sector reform, legal empowerment, human rights, anti-corruption, institutional strengthening, and governance innovations; expand participation/representation of vulnerable groups; support the National Assembly, Constitutional institutions, law-enforcement, independent bodies, local authorities

Facilitate civil society and community participation in justice/human rights processes – legal aid expansion, community-based justice, citizen oversight; advance digital governance tools including case-tracking mechanisms

Build and manage partnerships with government, CSOs, academia, UN agencies, regional bodies, development partners, and the private sector; mobilise resources through concept notes, proposals, donor engagement

  • May supervise consultants and work closely with UNDP regional/global governance networks
  • Requirements

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Law, Political Science, Public Administration, Development Studies, or related field. A Bachelor’s plus 2 additional years qualifying experience considered in lieu of Master’s.

Experience: Minimum 7 years (with Master’s) or 9 years (with Bachelor’s) professional experience in governance, rule of law, human rights, or related areas.

Language: Fluency in English and Setswana required.
