- Job Summary
The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, stacking, and retrieval of goods within the resort’s central warehouse. You will support the Receiving and Cost Control teams by unloading heavy shipments and organizing inventory in a way that maximizes space and ensures easy access to departmental requisitions.
- Key Responsibilities
- Loading & Unloading
: Safely unload heavy pallets from delivery trucks and containers, ensuring that high-value luxury goods are handled with extreme care to prevent damage.
- Warehouse Organization
: Move and stack pallets according to the warehouse layout, ensuring that "First-In, First-Out" (FIFO) principles are followed for perishable and date-sensitive items.
- Order Fulfillment
: Use the forklift to retrieve heavy or high-reaching bulk items (e.g., cases of liquor, cleaning chemicals, or linens) requested by the various hotel departments.
- Equipment Maintenance
: Perform daily pre-operational safety checks on the forklift (checking battery/fuel, hydraulics, and brakes) and report any mechanical issues to the Warehouse Manager immediately.
- Safety Compliance
: Operate the forklift strictly adhering to resort safety protocols, especially when navigating near pedestrians or in tight storage aisles.
- Inventory Assistance
: Assist the Cost Analysts during monthly stock take by moving pallets to facilitate accurate counting and labeling of goods.
- Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certification
:
- Valid Forklift Operator License/Certification
(must be current and recognized in Jamaica).
- Experience
: At least 2–3 years of experience operating a forklift, preferably in a high-volume warehouse or distribution center.
- Physical Strength
: Ability to assist with manual heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) when not operating the machinery.
- Technical Skill
: Proficiency in operating different types of equipment (e.g., reach trucks or sit-down counterbalanced forklifts).
- Reliability
: Punctuality is critical, as you will be needed at the loading dock the moment delivery trucks arrive to prevent delays.
Experience handling imports and understanding "Bonded Warehouse" procedures is a plus, given the high volume of imported luxury items for a resort of this size.
- Awareness of
- OSHA/local safety standards
for industrial equipment operation.
