The Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM), Zomba Diocese, is a relief and development arm of the Catholic Church. It aims to create awareness and empower disadvantaged men, women, and youth at all levels to undertake development that is integral, gender-sensitive, environmentally sustainable, and promotes justice, human dignity, and self-reliance through the active participation of the people themselves so that they take responsibility for their destiny.

Zomba CADECOM, with funding from Irish Aid through Trocaire Malawi, is implementing the Irish Aid Civil Society Programme (ICSP) in Machinga District, Traditional Authority (TA) Chamba and Mposa. The overall project goal is that Poor and marginalized people, especially women and youth, have sustainable lives, including diverse food sources and economic well-being.

The Diocese of Zomba is looking for a suitably qualified person to fill the vacant position of Field Officer.

  • Number of positions: Two (2)
  • Reporting to: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability  and Learning Officer (MEAL)
  • Employment Period: 5 Months, renewable based on availability of funds and staff performances
  • Duty station: Zomba District
  • 1. Key responsibilities

Implementing Sustainable Agricultural production, Livelihoods, Natural Resource management, and Disaster Risk Management interventions on the front-line.

Facilitating the overall implementation of activities in accordance with approved project or activity budgets

Facilitating distribution of materials for implementation of project activities like construction materials, lead farmers' equipment, and beekeeping materials.

  • Serving as a conduit for information sharing between stakeholders and program management

Providing ongoing assistance, networking activities, capacity building, and training for community groups under the guidance of the Programme Coordinator, to achieve the overall project activities

  • Representing the project at various forums at the district and community level

Documenting best practices/case studies and other relevant information as agreed on the work plan.

Developing weekly and monthly work plans and progress reports promptly.

Contributing to the identification, development, or acquisition of appropriate resources to support technical components of the programme, including the written translation of materials.

Collecting data and reporting to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.

  • Sensitizing the project participants on the organization’s Safeguarding and Protection policies

Strengthening the existing Complaints Grievances Redress Mechanisms in relation to CADECOM’s Feedback Complaint and Handling Mechanism (FCHM)

  • Academic Qualifications

Diploma in Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Agricultural Extension, Environmental Sciences, from an accredited institution. Those with Bachelor’s Degrees will have an added advantage.

  • Work experience

Minimum of five years of experience working in Agroecology, Community-based natural resources management (CBNRM), and Community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM), Women economic empowerment - Green market systems, Climate change and Environmental Justice.

  • Motorcycle riding-(Valid Driver’s License)
  • Computer literacy in Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentations, and virtual meetings
  • Well experienced in Data collection tools such as KOBO, ODK, SURVEY CTO, COMCAREW, and mWater
  • Other attributes
  • Self-starter
  • Team worker
  • Ability to work within deadlines
  • Flexibility
