Satellite Foundation is recruiting two Community Connectors to work across regional Victoria:

• one position in Gippsland, based near Bairnsdale or Traralgon
• one position in Barwon South West, based near Geelong or Warrnambool.

About Satellite Foundation

Satellite Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that connects and empowers young people aged 5 to 25 who have a family member living with mental health challenges. Through peer support, programs, workshops and creative activities, Satellite helps young people build connections, confidence and wellbeing.

These positions are delivered in partnership with Wellways, which operates Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centres in Bairnsdale, Traralgon, Geelong and Warrnambool.

About the role

Community Connectors engage with young people aged 8 to 25 living in families affected by mental ill-health, including young people who may not yet identify that they need support.

Using community development, outreach and creative engagement approaches, you will build relationships with young people, schools, services and community organisations. You will help establish referral pathways, strengthen local capability and contribute to a Regional Engagement Framework informed by young people’s lived experience.

The roles are regionally based near a Wellways Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre. Hybrid working is available, although regular travel across the relevant region is required.

The positions report to the Manager, Partnerships and Contracts.

What you will do

• Map the regional school, service and community landscape and establish productive local relationships.
• Engage young people through schools, community settings, creative programs and digital channels.
• Test and refine trauma-informed approaches for reaching young people who may be disconnected from formal support.
• Build the capability of schools, services and creative practitioners to recognise and support young people.
• Establish and document warm referral pathways into the Connect Centre network.
• Capture data and learnings to inform the Regional Engagement Framework and improve service delivery.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and meet safeguarding and reporting requirements.

About you

You will bring:

• experience working directly with young people in community development, youth work, outreach, mental health or a related setting
• an understanding of trauma-informed practice and how to build trust with young people
• the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with schools, services and community organisations
• knowledge of Victorian service systems relevant to young people, families and carers
• well-developed communication and relationship-management skills
• the ability to manage an independently structured, regionally based workload
• experience maintaining records, using a CRM and meeting reporting requirements
• a current driver’s licence and willingness to travel throughout the region
• relevant qualifications in community services, social work, youth work, mental health or a related discipline.

Experience in training, capability building, program evaluation, co-design, digital engagement or arts-based programs will be highly regarded. Existing networks in Gippsland or Barwon South West would also be valuable.

Lived and living experience

Satellite Foundation values lived and living experience. Personal experience of growing up in a family affected by mental ill-health, or supporting a family member experiencing mental health challenges, is highly regarded but not mandatory.
