About Us
Our organisation was established 43 years ago by a group of culturally diverse women with a commitment to elevating the voices and rights of migrant women experiencing domestic and family violence. We remain a strong, committed team of migrant women striving to deliver high-quality, social justice outcomes for families in Western Sydney and beyond. Immigrant Women’s SpeakOut Association of NSW Inc. (SpeakOut) is a leading not-for-profit organisation. We are dedicated to reducing isolation, promoting community engagement, and supporting women’s financial and emotional independence. We provide crisis and long-term support for women and children experiencing domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV), supporting them to achieve their goals, and rebuild their lives.
About the Role
This role provides direct service delivery, including culturally responsive engagement, biopsychosocial assessment, advocacy, case management, and physical and psychosocial safety planning. Child safe engagement is provided to support adult and child safety and recovery; recognising children are directly victimised by domestic and family violence.
This is the ideal role for a passionate and experienced professional who is skilled in working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds and dedicated to providing practice excellence in DFSV.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to key organisational operations including intake, needs assessment, provision of internal and external referrals and other duties as requested.
- Provide information, case management, advocacy, safety planning and needs-based support to immigrant and refugee women and their children who are victims of DFSV. This includes assessing client needs using evidence-informed tools. Create tailored support plans. It is expected you will take a relationship-based practice approach and engage informal support networks in your casework.
- Provide practical and emotional support to women residing in the shelters operated by Immigrant Women’s Speakout. This includes spending time in the two shelters to support operations of the service, and engaging residents in meaningful and culturally supportive ways.
- Attend forums, community and sector events to promote Immigrant Women’s SpeakOut.
- Support the Chief Executive Officer by undertaking other projects, as required.
- Undertake documentation and compliance activities to maintain accurate records and adhere to privacy, ethical and legal obligations.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology or relevant areas of tertiary study.
- Current Drivers License and access to a comprehensively insured vehicle.
- At least three years’ experience in delivering services to families experiencing complex trauma, including people who have experienced domestic, family or sexual violence.
- An understanding of the issues faced by migrant women and their children who experience domestic violence and homelessness, including an understanding of the dynamics of domestic, family and sexual violence and ACES.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds with empathy and respect, and knowledge of systemic and other barriers impacting migrant women and children.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.
- Knowledge of ethical and legal obligations in case work, including mandatory reporting obligations.
Desirable Criteria
- Fluency in a community language other than English.
- Candidates from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Conditions of Employment
- Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police check.
- Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
Why Work with Us?
- Work for social impact and contribute to making meaningful change in the lives of women and children.
- Supportive, friendly, and culturally diverse team.
- Access to learning and continuous quality improvement opportunities.
