Position: Associate Software Engineer

Location: Kenya

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Associate Software Engineer (Java Programmer) to join our Software Development team. This role is ideal for recent graduates or professionals with up to two years of experience who are passionate about developing enterprise and mobile applications.

Role Overview

The Associate Software Engineer translates functional requirements into reliable technical implementations. They design and optimize database structures, develop PL/SQL logic, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate with crossfunctional teams to deliver seamless software experiences.

They act as technical enablers, ensuring that Neptune’s platforms run efficiently, securely, and in alignment with client and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Application & Database Development

· Design, develop, and maintain Oracle PL/SQL scripts, packages, procedures, and triggers

· Build and optimize SQL queries to ensure maximum performance and reliability

Technical Analysis & Solution Design

· Analyse business and system requirements and convert them into scalable technical solutions

· Mobile UI/UX principles

· Mobile application integration with REST APIs

Database Administration

· Execute backups, restores, data migration, and general database maintenance

· Monitor database health and ensure adherence to security and compliance standards

Issue Resolution & System Stability

· Debug and troubleshoot production issues to maintain system uptime and reliability

· Implement fixes and enhancements aligned with Neptune’s quality standards

CrossFunctional Collaboration

· Work closely with business consultants, project managers, and technical teams to deliver projects on time

· Support solution deployment and ensure smooth integration across environments

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields

Technical Expertise

· Strong SQL, PL/SQL, and Java programming skills

· 1+ years of experience in Oracle PL/SQL development

· Experience in database administration and performance tuning

· Proficiency in business intelligence and data visualization

· Expertise in Docker and Kubernetes

· Understanding of Linux/Unix administration, networking concepts, and system troubleshooting

· Familiarity with SDLC methodologies

· Knowledge of enterprise application integration.

· Familiarity with cloud platforms is an added advantage.

· Understanding of secure software development practices.

· Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

· Experience with payment systems, APIs, or financial applications is an added advantage.

Soft Skills

Strong analytical, problemsolving, communication, and interpersonal skills; willing to travel; ability to collaborate with diverse teams and deliver under structured project environments

Experience

Prior experience in software development, database engineering, or enterprise system support
