- Job Title : Welder (2)
- Department: Production / Workshop
- Reports to: Workshop Supervisor / Production Manager
- Location : Lilongwe
- Job Purpose
To carry out welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of metal structures, equipment, and components in accordance with company specifications, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Key Duties and Responsibilities
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
Perform welding using approved welding processes (MIG, TIG, ARC, or Gas Welding as required).
Fabricate metal products, structures, and components according to specifications.
Repair damaged metal structures, machinery, and equipment.
Cut, shape, grind, and prepare metal materials before welding.
Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
Operate welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, and other workshop tools safely.
Maintain welding equipment and report faults requiring repair.
Ensure proper handling and storage of materials and tools.
Follow workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.
Record completed work and report progress to the supervisor.
Assist in loading, unloading, and handling fabricated products when required.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Workshop Supervisor or Management.
- Qualifications
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
Certificate or Diploma in Welding and Fabrication or a related technical field.
Valid trade test certification is an added advantage.
- Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in welding and metal fabrication.
Experience in manufacturing, construction, or engineering environments is an added advantage.
- Skills and Competencies
Strong welding and fabrication skills.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Good knowledge of welding techniques and metal properties.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and time management skills.
Physically fit and capable of handling demanding workshop tasks.
- Working Conditions
Primarily based in the workshop and may occasionally work on construction or installation sites.
May be required to work overtime or weekends to meet production schedules.
Exposure to heat, sparks, noise, and heavy equipment, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.
