About the Role

We are seeking a Specialist Foster Carer to provide a medium to long-term foster placement for a little girl in care.

This is a unique and meaningful opportunity for people with experience in caring roles (e.g. social work, community services, disability, education, health or allied health) who are looking to apply their skills in a home-based setting and make a lasting difference

This role requires someone who can offer consistency, structure and a genuine sense of belonging, while working alongside a dedicated care team to support complex needs.

About the Young Person

‘Maddy’ (name changed to protect her privacy) is nine years old and currently living in residential care. She needs a medium to long-term foster family who can provide her with a safe and nurturing home.

She is an endearing little girl with a wonderful sense of humour. She is a bundle of energy and can often be found bouncing on the trampoline, doing cartwheels, handstands, or generally keeping busy. Maddy has an amazing imagination and an incredible capacity for imaginative play. She is a bright, capable and resilient child who desperately wants to belong.

How You Can Help

Maddy has ADHD and complex needs. She needs help with impulse control, emotional regulation and consistency. She is bright and chatty, with strong verbal skills. She requires patient carers who can provide clear guidance and gentle support. She can no longer live with her birth family, although does have a positive relationship with her siblings and sees them regularly.

Maddy has a comprehensive NDIS Support Package and needs carers happy to work closely with her Care Team, Disability Workers and Respite Carers to help give her the best life possible. This is an opportunity to support a vulnerable young person to thrive and reach her potential.

Support Provided

You will be well supported in this role and not expected to manage alone. Anglicare Victoria provides:

  • Comprehensive foster care training
  • A tax-free reimbursement of approximately $1,800 per fortnight
  • 24/7 on-call support
  • Regular planned respite plus additional after school, and personal carer support.
  • A professional care team committed to long-term stability and success

Maddy has a NDIS Support Package and a very supportive Care Team. She also attends primary school (reduced hours) and transport assistance is available if required.

Key Selection Criteria

We are seeking people who can:

  • Provide a safe, stable and nurturing home
  • Support a young person with complex behaviours and needs
  • Offer structure, consistency and supervision
  • Be at home or work flexibly to accommodate part-time schooling

Experience or a background in Social Work, Disability, Youth Work, Counselling, Behavioural Support, Education or Health/Allied Health or Community Services will be highly regarded.

Why Become a Specialist Foster Carer?

  • Use your professional skills in a deeply meaningful way
  • Provide a young person with stability, connection and belonging
  • Be part of a well-supported and experienced care team
  • Create lifelong impact at a pivotal moment in a young person’s life
