Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
 Train and supervise junior staff in the proper work methods/procedures and in the
preparation of practicals for students.
 Conduct, or assist in conducting Crop Sciences and Horticulture laboratory practicals.
 Source laboratory equipment and consumables.
 Assist and supervise Teaching Assistants in the performance of their duties.
 Assist in the setting up of apparatus/preparation of chemical reagents for research and
practicals.
 Provide technical support and services for academic members of staff and researchers in
the field of Crop Science.
 Maintain teaching equipment and instrument to ensure accuracy and efficient
performance.
 Demonstrate the use of equipment and instrument to students and staff.
 Organise field visits and practicals.
 Participate in the development of quality standards and programs for the Crop Science
laboratories.
 Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with set standards.
 Check stocks of consumables and advise on re-order levels.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
 Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science/Horticulture/Biological Sciences or any
related field.
 They should be able to operate the major equipment found in a Crop Science laboratory.
 The candidate must have at least two years of relevant experience working in a teaching
laboratory at tertiary levels
 A Master’s degree in the related field will be an added advantage.
