Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and analyses monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash-flow statements, to the required accuracy and standard.
• Manage general ledger functions, post and review journal entries, and promptly investigate and resolve account discrepancies.
• Prepare reconciliation schedules, account analyses and supporting documentation for management review and audit purposes.
• Co-ordinate with internal and external auditors, prepare comprehensive audit files and support tax compliance processes.
• Assist the FOSA Manager in financial forecasting, budget variance analysis and departmental budget monitoring.
• Supervise, train and appraise junior accountants and clerical staff, ensuring quality output and continuous professional development.
• Evaluate and improve accounting procedures to strengthen internal controls and enhance operational efficiency within the FOSA department.
• Ensure strict adherence to GAAP, IFRS and applicable SASRA and SACCO regulatory requirements at all times.
• Prepare periodic management reports and reconciliation schedules for review by the FOSA Manager and senior management.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
• Bachelor’s Degree in business related field from a recognized university. CPA qualifications while ICPAK is added advantage.
• 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience, in a similar role, preferably within a SACCO, microfinance institution or regulated financial environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of ERP or accounting software, such as SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks or equivalent SACCO banking systems.
• Knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation, including month-end and year-end close processes.
• Strong analytical thinking and numerical accuracy, with a keen eye for detail.
• Effective supervisory and mentoring skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high level of professional integrity and reliability.
