Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory investigations on patient specimens in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
- Receive, identify, label, process, and properly store patient samples while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Analyse laboratory results accurately and promptly, and prepare reports for physicians and other authorized healthcare professionals.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments as required.
- Perform and document routine quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- Maintain proper laboratory hygiene and comply with infection prevention, occupational health, and safety protocols.
- Ensure the appropriate handling, storage, and disposal of biological specimens and laboratory waste.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, registers, reports, and other relevant documentation.
- Participate in internal quality assurance activities and external quality assessment schemes.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, reagent issues, and other factors that may affect the accuracy of laboratory results.
- Maintain adequate laboratory supplies and promptly communicate stock requirements to the appropriate supervisor.
- Protect patient confidentiality and handle all patient information in accordance with professional and hospital policies.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, other laboratory professionals, and hospital staff to support effective patient care.
- Perform other laboratory-related duties as assigned by the supervising Medical Laboratory Scientist or management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognized institution.
- Full registration and a current practising licence with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
- Candidates must be based inBenin City, Edo State.
- Previous experience working in a hospital, diagnostic centre, or clinical laboratory is an advantage.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and respect for patient confidentiality.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to use hospital laboratory software and electronic systems.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet required turnaround times without compromising quality.
