  • As the
  • Managing Director,

the individual will report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to set the goals, strategy, and direction of the Bank.  The individual will collaborate with the executive management and staff to grow revenue and profitability, increase new and sound business opportunities, maintain a results oriented performance culture, maintain effective and relevant internal structures, policies and risk management, produce financial statements in compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and build positive working relationships with the Bank’s key stakeholders in Dominica and the wider region.

  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • a)
  • Lead Executive Management in planning and executing the Bank’s strategy

Lead the planning, design and development of strategies, policies, and programs to achieve Bank financial, operating, human resources, and other goals.

Identify and analyse global, regional and industry trends, issues, competitive threats, and opportunities and make inputs into the Bank’s strategic planning and development process.

Report to the Board of Directors on economic, trade, financial, accounting and any other conditions or factors which may influence Management and Board judgment in the formulation or modification of strategy and policy.

Support the implementation and achievement of the current and future strategic and operational plans by aligning individual and department goals to organizational goals.

Keep abreast of trends and developments within the banking industry and within the various functional areas and recommend changes to strategy and practices where applicable.

Champion change, model mindsets and behaviours, and deliver compelling messages that challenge obsolete methods and practices and encourage the adoption of business improvement initiatives and culture change to position the Bank as a leading corporate entity in terms of profitability and employee and customer satisfaction.

Ensure that the departments consistently demonstrate a collective focus on achievement of the strategic goals of the Bank.

Work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Management to develop and implement the Bank’s Strategic Plan and annual Business Plan.

Collaborate with Executive Managers to develop the annual business plan and submit the to the Board of Directors annually by the due date.

Implement approved business plan(s) ensuring that NBD is profitably and prudently managed, monitoring key ratios and overall results and providing accurate and timely management reports to the Board of Directors with sound recommendations to achieve or exceed targets set in the approved plan.

Cascade goals to each department and Executive Managers, ensuring that department and individual objectives are aligned to support the Bank’s overall goals.

Communicate with all staff to gain buy-in to the Bank’s vision, values, strategies and principles, goals, and objectives.

Attend meetings of the Board and other committees of the Bank and provide institutional support to the Board and its committees.

Liaise with the Chairman of the Board and the respective Chairpersons of the Audit, Risk & Compliance, Human Resource, Credit, and Governance Committees of the Board, ensure timely review and circulation of papers, attend meetings, and provide advice and information as required.

Execute on agreed and approved decisions of the Board of Directors, and its committees, monitor implementation, and provide regular updates on achievements.

Work to establish, maintain and grow the Bank’s competitive advantage, image, viability, and position within the market.

Analyse the market and seize opportunities for growth and new business.

Manage the relationships between respective departments and business units.

Direct the development of appropriate strategic performance metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and milestones for the Bank.

Perform regular reviews of Bank’s plans to assess continued relevance considering ongoing internal and external developments.

b) Develop and implement tactical plans that are aligned to the Bank’s strategic plans.

Develop, review, and revise the Bank’s service charter, and standards, principles, policies, and procedures to achieve conformance with international, local, and internal guidelines and standards.

Ensure that the Bank is profitably managed with the targets, financial ratios and results set and approved in the Business Plan met and/or exceeded.

Monitor the performance of Service Level Agreements that provide a framework governing the flow of work between departments while maintaining or exceeding service expectations and standards.

Develop strategies, tactical plans, and workflows to achieve organisational objectives and monitors and reviews the Bank’s performance, highlighting relevant variances and recommending appropriate action.

Manage the overall workflows of the Bank to ensure the efficient and equitable distribution of duties.

Ensure that each department is adequately resourced in terms of people, tools and equipment, and budget to enable the department to complete its work, and manage those resources in an economical, effective, and efficient manner.

Manage the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.

Be responsible for the overall efficient performance and productivity of the Bank.

Assign appropriately, responsibility for the implementation of strategic initiatives, and makes provisions for enabling factors for successful accomplishment of goals.

Establish, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures for the Bank.

Sets and enforces organisational policies and procedures.

  • Direct and oversee the work of each department

Oversee the work of each department, providing instruction, guidance, know-how, and other support to ensure that the work in each department is completed in an effective and efficient manner, and that each functional area remains focused on the overall strategic objectives of the Bank.

Act as a point of escalation for matters arising from each functional area, and direct and support the Executive Managers and their teams in the resolution of such matters.

Ensure full compliance with regulatory and statutory laws, rules and orders including by not limited to Banking, Accounting, Investment, Privacy, Customers, Employees Law, Health and Safety and any other law that may be applicable to the Bank.

Champion the institutionalisation and implementation of exceptional customer service standards and practices, recognising and reinforcing by example the essentials of excellent customer care behaviours in accordance with NBD’s policy.

Authorize loans, transactions, and other decisions within approved limits.

Ensure that all loans, credits, and investments are carefully evaluated in line with NBD’s risk management policy, recommending/declining approval and ensuring proper communication of decisions and disbursement of funds.

Support the business development efforts by leading or participating in the team on client calls and visits, and in the development of proposals to clients and potential clients.

Ensure the maintenance, verification and integrity of the Bank’s financial records and timely and accurate preparation of financial and other reports for internal/external auditors and regulatory agencies.

Ensure formulation and successful implementation of NBD’s Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations programmes, targeting profitable niche markets, cross selling products and services and networking extensively to achieve growth and profitability targets set.

Responsible for the overall performance and productivity of the Bank’s Human Resources.

Ensure that the Bank is profitably managed with the targets, financial ratios and results set and approved in the Business Plan met and/or exceeded.

Ensure that all required documentation, security, and risk management systems are in place and followed in order that NBD achieves at least a Satisfactory or better Audit & Risk rating and does not suffer any financial loss/negative exposure due to a lack of care in this area.
