The Lecturer – Nursing will be responsible for providing effective teaching, clinical supervision, academic mentorship and student assessment in

• Medical-Surgical Nursing, Clinical Nursing and related nursing courses

.

The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development, research, examination management, quality assurance, student support and the effective implementation of institutional and regulatory standards.

The position requires a professionally registered nurse with strong clinical competence, tertiary teaching experience and a commitment to developing knowledgeable, ethical and clinically competent nursing graduates.

• 2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must possess the following:

A Grade 12 School Certificate with at least five credits, including:

• English;
• Mathematics; and

Science.

• A
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Midwifery or a closely related nursing discipline

from a recognised institution.

• A valid
• Zambia Qualifications Authority verification or evaluation report

for the relevant academic qualifications.

• A valid and current
• Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia practising certificate

.

• A minimum of
• two years’ tertiary-level teaching experience

in nursing or health sciences education.

Relevant clinical experience in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Clinical Nursing, Midwifery or a related nursing discipline.

Evidence of competence in clinical teaching, student assessment and academic mentorship.

Good computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, electronic learning platforms and digital teaching resources.

• A

Master of Science in Nursing, Nursing Education, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Public Health or a related field

will be an added advantage.

Training in teaching methodology, health professions education, clinical instruction or curriculum development will also be an added advantage.

• 3. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars and clinical practical sessions in accordance with approved curricula.

Teach Medical-Surgical Nursing, Clinical Nursing and other assigned nursing courses.

Develop course outlines, schemes of work, lesson plans, lecture notes and appropriate teaching materials.

Ensure that teaching content is current, evidence-based and aligned with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Use appropriate teaching methods to support students with different academic and clinical learning needs.

Integrate nursing theory, clinical practice, patient safety, professional ethics and evidence-based care into teaching activities.

Facilitate demonstrations and practical training in the nursing skills laboratory.

Ensure that students understand clinical procedures, infection-prevention standards and professional nursing responsibilities.

Use case studies, simulations, demonstrations and clinical scenarios to strengthen student competence.

Participate in online, blended and face-to-face teaching where required.

• Clinical Supervision

Supervise students during clinical placements at approved health facilities.

Ensure that students effectively integrate classroom theory with clinical practice.

Provide guidance to students during ward rotations, clinical procedures and patient-care activities.

Assess students’ clinical competence, professional conduct, communication and adherence to patient-safety requirements.

Review and sign students’ clinical logbooks, procedure records and clinical assessment documents.

Conduct clinical teaching sessions, bedside demonstrations and case discussions.

Identify students experiencing clinical difficulties and provide appropriate remedial support.

Liaise with clinical placement coordinators, ward managers, preceptors and health-facility staff.

Ensure students comply with clinical placement rules, dress codes, professional conduct and confidentiality requirements.

Report serious student misconduct, unsafe practice or clinical concerns to the Head of Department.

Participate in the planning, allocation and monitoring of student clinical placements.

• Student Assessment and Examinations

Prepare assignments, tests, practical assessments, examination questions and marking guides.

Administer and mark assessments and examinations in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Participate in examination moderation, invigilation, marking and verification of results.

Assess students’ theoretical knowledge, practical skills, clinical competence and professional behaviour.

Submit marked assessments and examination results within prescribed deadlines.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.

Maintain the confidentiality and security of examination materials and student results.

Identify students who are academically at risk and recommend appropriate support measures.

Participate in supplementary, deferred and remedial assessments where required.

Ensure that examination and assessment practices are fair, transparent and aligned with approved learning outcomes.

• Academic Mentorship and Student Support

Provide academic mentorship, guidance and support to nursing students.

Serve as a class tutor or academic adviser when appointed.

Monitor students’ attendance, academic progress, clinical performance and professional conduct.

Counsel students on academic improvement, clinical expectations and professional development.

Refer students requiring specialised support to the appropriate institutional office.

Promote discipline, ethical conduct, respectful communication and professional behaviour among students.

Encourage students to develop critical-thinking, clinical decision-making and lifelong-learning skills.

Support students in research projects, case studies, presentations and community-health activities.

Provide guidance to students preparing for professional examinations and clinical assessments.

• Curriculum Development and Review

Participate in the development, review and improvement of nursing curricula.

Contribute to the preparation and review of course content, learning outcomes and assessment methods.

Ensure that curriculum content reflects changes in nursing practice, professional standards and healthcare needs.

Participate in programme review meetings and curriculum validation activities.

Recommend improvements to teaching methods, clinical training and student assessment.

Assist in reviewing teaching materials, clinical tools and student learning resources.

• Research and Scholarly Activities

Participate in nursing, health sciences and educational research activities.

Contribute to institutional research projects, publications and professional presentations.

Support students in developing research proposals and completing research assignments.

Promote evidence-based nursing practice through teaching and clinical supervision.

Participate in conferences, seminars, workshops and Continuing Professional Development activities.

Demonstrate ongoing involvement in research, innovation or scholarly activities.

Remain updated on developments in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Clinical Nursing and nursing education.

• Quality Assurance

Participate in institutional and departmental quality-assurance activities.

Maintain complete and current teaching files for all assigned courses.

Participate in lecturer evaluations, teaching observations, clinical audits and academic reviews.

Implement corrective actions arising from quality-assurance findings.

Ensure compliance with approved curricula, academic calendars and teaching schedules.

Participate in programme accreditation, monitoring and regulatory inspection activities.

Prepare and provide academic records and evidence required during audits and inspections.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching, assessment and clinical supervision.

• Academic Administration

Maintain accurate student attendance records, assessment records and clinical supervision reports.

Prepare and submit course reports, teaching reports and student-progress reports.

Attend departmental meetings, academic board meetings and other institutional meetings as assigned.

Participate in student orientation, staff development programmes, graduation activities and institutional events.

Assist in preparing departmental work plans, teaching schedules and clinical supervision plans.

Submit required reports and academic documents within prescribed timelines.

Participate in the allocation of courses, teaching workloads and clinical supervision responsibilities.

Maintain proper records of lesson delivery, student consultations and academic interventions.

Support effective communication between students, lecturers, clinical sites and the department.

• Skills Laboratory Responsibilities

Conduct practical demonstrations in the nursing skills laboratory.

Ensure that students are properly prepared before performing procedures in clinical settings.
