Job Description
Key Responsibilities

Herd and Animal Health Management

  • Nutrition: Formulate or manage feed formulations, monitor feed inventory, and ensure access to clean water to maximize milk yield.
  • Veterinary Care: Monitor livestock for disease or injury, manage vaccination programs, and work closely with veterinarians to treat animals.
  • Breeding & Calving: Have a specialized training in breeding of cows and goats and artificial insemination.
Daily Operations and Maintenance
  • Milking: Supervise milking procedures to ensure high hygiene standards, milk quality, and proper equipment operation.
  • Facilities: Inspect and maintain barns, milking parlors, and farm machinery, ensuring routine upkeep.
  • Fodder Management: Manage grazing rotations, supervise the planting and harvesting of fodder crops.
Business and Financial Planning
  • Profitability: Prepare and analyze financial budgets, control procurement costs, and align farm operations with targets.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous data on milk production, sales, breeding metrics, and herd health.
  • Compliance: Ensure biosecurity, health, and safety regulations are strictly enforced across the farm.
Staff and Team Leadership
  • Supervision: Assign daily work schedules and duties to herdsmen, milkers, and general farmhands.
  • Training: Recruit, train, and motivate farm staff in modern dairy techniques and safety procedures.
  • Communication: Hold regular team meetings to track farm progress and ensure a productive work environment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in managing a commercial farm or agricultural operations.
  • Education: At least a Certificate in Animal Health and Production.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of animal nutrition, pasture management, and dairy milking technologies. Must be comfortable using farm/herd management software and keeping accurate digital records.
  • Soft Skills: Proven leadership and team-building capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be computer literate.
