Civil Engineer

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Civil Engineer to plan, design, manage, and supervise civil engineering and construction projects. The successful candidate will ensure that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with approved engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, and applicable South African legislation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and oversee civil engineering projects, including roads, stormwater drainage, water and sewer infrastructure, and other civil works.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, designs, and project documentation.
• Conduct site inspections, surveys, and technical assessments.
• Supervise construction activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings and engineering standards.
• Monitor project progress, costs, resources, and construction schedules.
• Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and site personnel.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable construction regulations, environmental requirements, and quality standards.
• Identify technical risks, investigate site problems, and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
• Conduct quality inspections and ensure that corrective actions are implemented.
• Prepare progress reports, technical reports, measurements, and project records.
• Assist with project budgeting, tender documentation, procurement, and contract administration.
• Ensure that materials and construction methods comply with project specifications.
• Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
• Monitor environmental controls and promote safe, sustainable construction practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• 5 Years experience
• Relevant experience in civil engineering and construction projects.
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, materials, and project management.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction plans.
• Understanding of South African construction standards, applicable legislation, and health and safety requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar applications.
• Strong planning, analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s licence may be required, depending on the project.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), where applicable to the position.
• Experience in roads, stormwater, earthworks, concrete structures, water infrastructure, or other relevant civil engineering disciplines.
• Experience in construction supervision, quality control, contract administration, and project reporting.
• Knowledge of project scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
• Experience working with contractors, consultants, and municipal or private-sector clients.
