Job Description
Role Overview We are seeking a strategic, commercially driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial function and partner with executive leadership in driving sustainable growth, profitability, and regulatory compliance. The CFO will play a critical role in shaping business strategy, managing financial risks, optimizing capital structure, and ensuring robust financial governance in line with Kenyan regulatory frameworks and international best practices. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Business Partnering Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on financial strategy, growth, and risk management Drive long-term financial planning aligned with business objectives Support expansion strategies, including regional growth and new product lines Provide data-driven insights to inform executive decision-making Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling processes Develop and track key financial and operational KPIs Conduct scenario planning and stress testing (especially in volatile FX environments like KES/USD) Ensure alignment between financial plans and business performance Financial Management & Reporting Oversee preparation of accurate, timely financial statements in compliance with  IFRS Ensure strong internal controls and financial integrity Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes Present financial reports to the Board and investors Treasury & Cash Flow Management Optimize cash flow, working capital, and liquidity management Oversee banking relationships and capital allocation strategies Manage foreign exchange exposure and hedging strategies Ensure efficient management of multi-currency operations Regulatory Compliance & Governance (Kenya Focus) Ensure compliance with Kenyan regulatory bodies including: Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Oversee tax planning, filings, and statutory compliance Lead audit processes (internal and external) Ensure adherence to corporate governance standards Capital Strategy & Fundraising Lead fundraising efforts (equity, debt, and structured finance) Manage investor relations and reporting Support M&A activities, due diligence, and deal structuring Optimize capital structure for growth Risk Management & Controls Identify financial and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies Establish robust internal control frameworks Oversee enterprise risk management (ERM) processes Ensure compliance with AML/CFT frameworks where applicable Team Leadership & Capability Building Build and lead a high-performing finance team Develop talent and succession plans within the finance function Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field Professional certification required: CPA(K), ACCA, or CFA MBA or Master’s degree is an added advantage Minimum 10–15 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role Experience in financial services, fintech, banking, or high-growth tech environments is highly preferred Proven experience in fundraising, investor relations, and strategic finance Key Skills & Competencies Strong strategic and commercial acumen Deep understanding of financial modeling and analysis Expertise in regulatory and compliance frameworks in Kenya Excellent stakeholder management (Board, investors, regulators) High integrity and sound judgment Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-growth environments Preferred Experience (Highly Relevant for Kenya Market) Experience navigating FX volatility and cross-border payments in Africa Exposure to digital financial services, crypto, or payments infrastructure Familiarity with tax optimization and regulatory engagement in emerging markets Experience working with regional or pan-African organizations Compulsory requirements ICPACK Membership and letter of good standing PCC CRB Certificate
