Position

Assistant Director – Environmental Health Services

Grade: 13
Department: Health Services
Reporting to: Director of Health Services

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced, self-motivated and task-oriented individuals to fill the vacancy of Assistant Director – Environmental Health Services that has arisen within the City of Gweru.

Job Purpose

To provide strategic oversight and management of Public Health, Health Surveillance, Water and Sanitation Standards, Food Safety and Hygiene, Solid Waste and Disease Control Programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Strategic Responsibilities

* Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of disease surveillance programmes, pest and vector control, meat and meat hygiene programmes, and disease outbreak control.
* Oversee food hygiene inspections, water quality monitoring, waste management and pollution control initiatives.
* Develop and implement environmental health policies, strategies and programmes in line with relevant legislation and Council policies.
* Manage environmental health emergencies and public health risks.
* Prepare departmental budgets, work plans and performance reports.
* Advise the Director of Health Services on all environmental health issues.
* Conduct stakeholder engagement and public health awareness programmes.
* Enforce Municipal By-Laws and National Laws.
* Monitor departmental performance and recommend continuous service improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:

* Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised institution in Environmental or Public Health or an equivalent qualification.
* Master’s Degree in Environmental Health or a related field is an added advantage.
* Registration with the Environmental Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe is a must.
* Valid Practising Certificate is mandatory.
* At least four (4) years’ progressive post-qualification experience at middle or senior level.
* Citizen of Zimbabwe.
* No criminal record.
* Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence.
