Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger and subsidiary accounts, ensuring all accounts are properly reconciled.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including supplier payments, client invoicing, collections and follow-up of outstanding balances.
- Prepare and maintain client/matter billing records, including professional fees, disbursements, retainer payments and other billable expenses.
- Reconcile client-related and office financial transactions and ensure proper supporting documentation.
- Monitor client funds and transactions in line with internal controls and applicable professional requirements.
- Process and reconcile bank, mobile-money, cash, credit-card and other financial transactions.
- Maintain proper records of disbursements, reimbursements, retainers and client-related expenses.
- Prepare weekly, monthly and annual financial reports, including management accounts, cash-flow reports, receivables/payables reports and other analysis required by management.
- Monitor the firm's budget, expenditure and cash flow, identifying variances and financial risks.
- Support partners and management with financial information for decision-making, budgeting and financial planning.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with tax, payroll and statutory financial obligations.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisers and other professional advisers as required.
- Maintain proper accounting records and documentation to support audit and regulatory requirements.
- Identify process improvements to strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years' relevant accounting experience, preferably within a law firm, professional-services firm, consulting firm, audit/accounting firm or a corporate environment with comparable financial operations.
- Experience working in a law firm or other professional-services environment will be an added advantage.
- CPA(K) or ACCA qualification (with a preference for active ICPAK membership).
- Experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, billing, collections and statutory compliance.
- Experience handling client accounts, retainers, disbursements or matter-based billing will be highly advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan taxation, payroll and statutory financial obligations.
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience supporting audits, financial reviews and regulatory requirements.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, financial procedures and accounting standards.
