Accountant

Job Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for managing daily financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, monitoring cash flow, and ensuring timely tax and statutory remittances. The ideal candidate must have practical accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced business environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Records and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and accounting documents.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Reconcile bank statements, cash balances, and general ledger accounts.
• Monitor income, expenditure, receivables, payables, and outstanding balances.
• Prepare periodic financial summaries to support management decisions.

2. Tax and Statutory Compliance

• Ensure timely computation, filing, and remittance of applicable taxes and statutory deductions.
• Handle relevant tax obligations, including VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, and other applicable taxes.
• Maintain proper documentation for tax audits, regulatory reviews, and financial assessments.
• Keep abreast of applicable Nigerian tax laws, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

3. Budgeting and Cash Flow Management

• Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
• Monitor cash flow and provide regular updates on the company's financial position.
• Track expenses against approved budgets and identify discrepancies or unnecessary costs.
• Ensure proper documentation and authorization of payments and expenses.

4. Internal Controls and Audit

• Implement and maintain effective financial controls to prevent errors, fraud, and financial irregularities.
• Verify invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, and supporting documents before processing transactions.
• Support internal and external audits by providing accurate records and requested documentation.
• Identify financial risks and recommend improvements to accounting procedures.

5. Business and Operational Support

• Maintain proper financial records for the company's real estate and insurance activities.
• Track property-related income, commissions, client payments, and outstanding transactions where applicable.
• Work closely with management, HR, sales, and other departments on payroll, expense management, and financial reporting.
• Perform other finance-related duties assigned by management.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Professional accounting qualification, such as ICAN or ACCA, is an advantage.
• Practical experience in tax computation, filing, and statutory remittances in Nigeria.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Tally, or similar platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.
• Experience in real estate, insurance, or a related industry is an added advantage.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and provide reliable financial reports.
