TERMINAL TRACTOR OPERATOR
Position Title: Terminal Tractor Operator Department: Operations / Warehouse / Yard Location: Mombasa Reports To: Yard Supervisor / Dispatcher Employment Type: Full-Time (Shift-Based)
Position Summary
This position plays a critical role in supporting vessel, warehouse, and trucking operations by ensuring equipment is properly positioned to maintain operational flow, safety, and customer service standards.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Operate terminal tractors (yard trucks/yard mules) to move trailers, chassis, containers, and dry van, flatbed, hopper, or tank trailers across vessel, warehouse, rail, and truck zones.
  • Position trailers and containers accurately at loading docks, staging areas, and designated work zones according to operational instructions.
  • Secure trailers and verify proper coupling and uncoupling procedures while maintaining high situational awareness of surrounding personnel and hazards.
  • Conduct rigorous pre-shift inspections of assigned equipment and promptly log and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Collaborate smoothly with dispatchers, warehouse staff, vessel teams, and external drivers to optimize yard traffic flow and terminal efficiency.
  • Safely maneuver heavy loads in tightly congested spaces under varying weather and environmental conditions.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • KCSE D (plain) or its recognized equivalent.
  • Valid NTSA driving license of class B, C, E with a valid Forklift endorsement.
  • Documented Terminal Tractor Certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ continuous experience in a similar role within a reputable logistics or port organization.
  • Strong IT skills; proven ability to safely back trailers into docks and confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including 12-hour extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.


Physical Requirements

  • Must meet "fit for duty" requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test).
  • Physical capacity to walk, stoop, kneel, climb up/down ladders/stairs, negotiate moving surfaces, and lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Flawless vision metrics (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment).
