The Role The Teacher of Design supports students in developing knowledge and skills in Digital Design and Computer Science by delivering high-quality instruction, designing and assessing learning, and serving as an internal examiner. The role exists to build subject competence, conceptual understanding and holistic growth, enabling students to become confident, responsible global citizens within a safe and supportive learning environment. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Department and work closely with colleagues to deliver inspiring lessons that enable every student to reach their individual potential. Key Responsibilities Teaching, Curriculum and Pedagogy Collaboratively plan units of study that maximise learning and align with IB curriculum standards (MYP and/or DP) Design clear, achievable lesson objectives and deliver well-organised lessons in line with unit plans Deliver engaging lessons in the spirit of inquiry, using IT and other resources to enhance instruction Differentiate learning so that every student can grasp design concepts and processes, breaking down content for varying levels of understanding Foster conceptual understanding and connect learning to real-world design contexts Create a safe, positive classroom environment and make full use of instructional time Assessment and Reporting Apply a thorough understanding of IB criterion-based assessment practices Use varied, well-documented formative and summative assessments to evidence student learning Produce accurate, criteria-based results that reflect what students can do Write clear, constructive report cards that identify pathways for improvement Participate actively in Parent-Teacher Conferences, supporting parents in understanding their child's progress Professional Growth and School Support Reflect on and continuously improve teaching practice, learning from evidence and from colleagues Take ownership of personal professional development and pursue growth opportunities Serve as a Homeroom Tutor, offering academic and pastoral support to students Mentor students in Service as Action (SA) / CAS projects, connecting Design to community engagement Contribute actively to a co-curricular club and support school trips as required The requirements Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Education, or a Bachelor's Degree Computer Design/Technology with a teaching qualification IB certification in Design (MYP and/or DP) is highly desirable Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) A minimum of 5 years' teaching experience in Digital Design, preferably within an IB World School or equivalent international education system Demonstrated experience designing, delivering and assessing curriculum using criterion-based methods (e.g. IB rubrics) Experience integrating technology and differentiated instruction into the classroom What We're Looking For Strong subject expertise and instructional competence in Digital Design A collaborative team player who communicates effectively with students, colleagues and parents Adaptability and a genuine interest in innovative, inquiry-based teaching methods Strong organisational skills in managing lesson planning, classroom time and assessment records A commitment to the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality and professionalism, and to safeguarding the welfare of children
