Role overview

The role involves proofreading and language editing student essays in Microsoft Word using Track Changes. The work focuses on improving grammar, clarity, academic tone, sentence structure and overall readability.

This is a proofreading and language-editing role only. It does not involve writing assignments for students or changing the original academic argument on behalf of students.

Main responsibilities

Proofread student essays, reports and coursework using Microsoft Word Track Changes.

Correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.

Improve clarity, academic tone and readability.

Identify unclear sentences and, where appropriate, leave short comments for the student.

Ensure the edited work remains faithful to the student’s original meaning and argument.

Return completed work within the agreed deadline.

Communicate clearly and professionally with the team.

Requirements

Excellent written English and strong academic writing skills.

Good attention to detail.

Ability to use Microsoft Word Track Changes.

Ability to meet deadlines reliably.

Experience with academic writing, proofreading, editing, tutoring or teaching.

MPhil/PhD students, recent graduates or early-career academics are strongly encouraged to apply.

Salary / Pay: Competitive freelance rate based on word count and turnaround time.
