We’re building something special at Neuroqueer - a service run by and for neurodivergent and LGBTQIASB+ people. Our mission is to make sure people like us feel good, seen, and supported.

If you care deeply about people, know what it’s like to navigate systems that weren’t built for you, and want your work to really mean something, we’d love to meet you.

the opportunity

We’re looking for an Occupational Therapist to partner with Neuroqueer as an independent contractor, delivering services under our brand to people across Australia via telehealth.

You’ll operate your own practice while accessing Neuroqueer’s client referral pipeline, brand, technology, and support. You set your own availability, choose your own hours, and have complete flexibility over when and how much you work.

You'll work with people to help them build skills, try new things, and feel more confident and connected in the world. We take a low-pressure, person-led approach and believe deeply in meeting people where they're at.

scope

  • Complete functional assessments in a collaborative, trauma-informed way
  • Co-create therapy goals with people that reflect their values and lives
  • Provide ongoing therapy, capacity building, or skill development support
  • Design and recommend strategies that support sensory regulation, executive functioning, or access needs
  • Support people to navigate barriers in daily life - whether that's getting dressed, accessing community, or building routines
  • Write clear, strengths-based reports to support things like NDIS funding or plan reviews
  • Collaborate with peer workers, support coordinators, and support staff to ensure holistic, consistent support

About you

We're looking for someone kind, thoughtful, and someone who genuinely cares about doing right by people. Someone who does the right thing - even when no one's watching, keeps people safe, and treats them with respect and warmth.

Ideally, you have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist (required)
  • Lived experience of neurodivergence and/or being LGBTQIASB+
  • Insight into the communities we serve and the barriers we face
  • A communication style that's thoughtful and respectful
  • Some experience in disability support, community work, or a related field (a bonus, not a must)
  • An NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (or you're happy to get them)
  • Comfort working autonomously in a remote team, with support and check-ins available when you need them

Experience working in NDIS-land or with marginalised communities is a bonus. We're experts in the NDIS, so we're also happy to support someone new to the space who aligns with our values.

What's in it for you

This is a contractor engagement, not employment. You operate your own practice and Neuroqueer provides you with client referrals, brand access, technology, and administrative support in exchange for a service fee based on your monthly billings.

  • A steady stream of client referrals - we handle intake, matching, and onboarding
  • Access to our technology platforms at no additional cost
  • Administrative support including invoicing, scheduling, and client communications
  • Full control over your availability - set your hours, change them whenever you like, and work as much or as little as suits you
  • Freedom to maintain your own clients and work with other organisations simultaneously
  • An affirming, inclusive culture that centres lived experience - where pacing yourself, asking for breaks, or saying “I need support” is genuinely welcomed
  • A voice in shaping how we grow - your ideas and feedback are deeply valued
  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of people who’ve been let down, misunderstood, or left out by other systems

What you’ll need to operate

As an independent contractor, you’ll need to maintain:

  • Your own ABN (sole trader or company)
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Public liability insurance
  • Current AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Your own internet connection and device suitable for telehealth

We encourage applications from people with lived experience of neurodivergence, disability, or being LGBTQIASB+, as well as First Nations folks and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, we’d love to hear from you.
