LECTURER (6)Description

The candidates should be able to teach any three (3) courses in Geometallurgy and Mining Engineering that include Mine Planning and Design, Mine Safety, Health & Environment, Mine Surveying & GIS, Computer Aided Design in Geometallurgyand Mining Engineering, Surface & Underground Mining Technology, Principles of Machinery Design, Mining Machinery, Materials Handling & Services , Mine Ventilation Practice, Explosives & Blasting Technology, Mineral Economics, Mining Project Evaluation, Extractive Metallurgy Applications and other Geometallurgy and Mining Engineering related courses. The Department reserves the right to allocate courses for teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties

Teaching and learning

· Facilitating learning and examining academic modules for Undergraduate and postgraduate students;

· Advise students and collaborate with faculty on teaching and learning within and across Departments, and the University;

· Develop teaching and learning materials andhandouts for the assigned module(s) or as assigned by the Head of Department;

· Conduct periodic review of teaching and learning materials and adapt course materials as informed by research. Contributing tothe review and enhancement of the curriculum;

· Design and implement a regime for both formative and summative assessment within the framework of the General Academic Regulations and the related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);

· Provideacademic and career guidance to candidates and

· Supervising both Undergraduate and Postgraduatestudents’ research activities in their fields of specialization.

Research

· Publishing in peer-reviewed journals;

· Participating in internal and external ResearchClusters to promote collaborative research;

· Seeking funding for research projects throughgrant applications;

· Supervising students' research activities and

· Attending local, regional, and internationalresearch conferences.

UniversityService/Community Engagement

· Taking some administrative responsibilitiesrelated to the department such as: student admissions and induction programmes;

· Developing and implementing new methods ofteaching to reflect changes in research;

· Participate in Departmental, Faculty Boards andUniversity Committees and

· Participate in peer review of research bycolleagues in the same field.

Innovation,Industrialisation and Community Engagement

· Representingthe institution at professional conferences and seminars and contributing tothese as necessary;

· Pursueapplied research leading to innovation and industrialization;

· Actively participate in Department and Facultyinnovation, industrialization and community engagement initiatives;

· Nurture and promote students’ innovation and industrialization efforts and

· Establishingcollaborative links outside the university with industrial, commercial and public organizations. participating in external working groups. Undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff training activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications And Experience

At least a Master’sDegree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing/Metallurgical Engineering,Geological/Geotechnical Engineering, or related field;

BSc (Hons) Degree orequivalent in Mining/Rock Mechanics Engineering, with at least a Lower Second(2.2) degree classification.

A PhD in MineralResources Evaluation, Extraction, Processing and Management fields, as well asteaching experience at a university level will be an added advantage.

Some teaching experience attertiary level and publications in related field or hands-on mining industryexperience in related fields, as well membership of a professional body such asthe Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers is not a must but desirable
