Beatrice Interiors is a newly established carpentry and joinery business in Mzuzu City. The company offers services including furniture production, ceiling installation, swing and gazebo installation, house roofing, wedding and corporate decorations, interior space organisation, and painting.

The company is inviting applications for full-time and part-time Carpenter positions.

  • POSITION 1: CARPENTER (GRADE B5)

  • Job Summary

The successful candidate will lead a team to deliver quality services to clients effectively and efficiently. The position includes a monthly salary and allowances during field work outside the district of operation and during wedding and engagement decorations.

  • Key Responsibilities

Make upholstery, boards, and pallet/DIY furniture including beds, chest drawers, cabinets, sofa sets, dining sets, swings, sink holders, shoe racks, dish racks, clothes racks, wardrobes, TV stands, picture and mirror frames, window sashes, doors, and door frames.

Produce accurate quotations by calculating surface areas of various structures.

Install different types of ceilings including:

Structural/Architectural ceilings such as conventional, flat, tray, coffered, vaulted, beam, and coved ceilings.

Suspended and false ceilings such as suspended/drop, stretch, and aluminium ceilings.

Repair, reuse, and recycle old furniture and pallets.

Carry out different house roofing works including hip and cross-hipped roofs, flat roofs, gable roofs, pyramid roofs, saltbox roofs, skillion roofs, dormer roofs, and bonnet roofs.

Prepare paints and paint houses, fences, equipment, and household utensils.

Make partitions, gazebos, and indoor/outdoor stages for weddings, engagements, birthday parties, and corporate functions.

Install decorations and mirrors on furniture, houses, and shops.

Purchase timber and materials in coordination with the Procurement and Administration Officer.

Read and interpret plans, architectural drawings, and interior space organisation designs.

Ensure safety procedures are followed and account for materials and equipment.

  • Core Competencies

Strong coordination and organisational skills.

Basic electricity experience and skills.

Ability to manage, teach, and mentor a team.

Experience in furniture making, partitions, house roofing, ceiling installation, and painting.

Proficiency in using power hand tools and manual hand tools.

  • Minimum Qualifications

Level 2 TEVETA Carpentry and Joinery Certificate with five (5) years’ work experience in a busy workshop or company/business.

Candidates with Level 3 TEVETA Carpentry and Joinery Certificate with three (3) years’ experience will have an added advantage.

  • POSITION 2: PART TIME CARPENTERS (GRADE B9)
  • Number of Posts: 2
  • Employment Type: Part Time
  • Job Summary

The successful candidates will work two days per week on a rotating schedule. Depending on workload, candidates may occasionally be required to work throughout the weekdays and will be compensated accordingly.

  • Key Responsibilities

Make upholstery, boards, and pallet/DIY furniture including beds, chest drawers, cabinets, sofa sets, dining sets, swings, sink holders, shoe racks, dish racks, clothes racks, wardrobes, TV stands, picture and mirror frames, window sashes, doors, and door frames.

Install structural and suspended ceiling designs.

Repair, reuse, and recycle old furniture and pallets.

Carry out house roofing works.

Prepare paints and paint houses, fences, equipment, and household utensils.

Make partitions, gazebos, and indoor/outdoor stages for events.

Install decorations.

Load and offload materials and furniture.

Install mirrors on furniture, houses, and shops.

Maintain cleanliness by scrubbing dust, washing utensils, mopping, and sweeping the shop, warehouse, and working areas.

  • Core Competencies

Experience in furniture making, partitions, stage mounting, and decorations.

Experience in ceiling installation, painting, and house roofing.

Proficiency in using power hand tools and manual hand tools.

Self-starter with attention to detail.

Basic electricity experience and knowledge.

  • Minimum Qualifications

PSLCE, JCE, or MSCE with five (5) years’ experience.

Candidates with Level 1 TEVETA Carpentry and Joinery Certificate with three (3) years’ post-certificate experience will have an added advantage.
