As a Supervisory Immigration Services Officer, you will conduct and oversee the planning of independent research regarding the eligibility entitlements of persons seeking immigration benefits, employment, and/or legal status under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Research and make case determinations, hearing and adjudicating appeals, and make decisions on reopening cases and whether to reconsider cases. Provide technical and administrative advice to staff who examine applications and petitions for immigration benefits, supporting documentation and related files or automated records to determine whether requested actions meet governing regulations Respond to applicant's questions or resolve problems through the application of established methods and criteria without causing unnecessary delays to either the applicant or the organization. Assign work based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Plan work to be completed by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and set target dates for work completion. Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas. Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
