The Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS) deploys Federal Air Marshals on U.S. aircraft worldwide and conducts protection, response, detection, and assessment activities in airports and transportation systems.
This is a secondary law enforcement position. Under the authority of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA) (PL 107-71, November 19, 2001), the incumbent functions as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and performs the duties and responsibilities assigned to Federal Air Marshals. The Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS) promotes public confidence in the security of our Nation's transportation domain by detecting, deterring and defeating criminal and terrorist acts. To achieve this mission, LE/FAMS deploys Federal Air Marshals on U.S. aircraft world-wide; conducts protection, response, detection, and assessment activities in airports and other transportation systems. This position serves as an Assistant Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge (ASAC).High-level duties include: Directs the work of subordinate Supervisory Federal Air Marshals (SFAMS) and Federal Air Marshals (FAMs) and performs supervisory duties including: assigning tasks, setting priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, coaching, and developing employee capabilities, approving leave, and taking and recommending appropriate corrective/disciplinary action; defines plans and organizes assigned resources (staff, budget, equipment, etc.) to accomplish objectives; manages budget and either reallocates resources among components or projects or requests additional resources, as needed; projects short-term and long-term future needs and justifies resource requirements. Functions as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and performs the duties and responsibilities assigned to the FAMS. Establishes and maintains liaison with other federal, state and local law enforcement at all levels, including those from private industry. Must be able to articulate both verbally and in writing the LE/FAMS field office goals and objectives to local, state and federal law enforcement partners, as well as a myriad of transportation security stakeholders. The incumbent has authority to make commitments for the major organizational component within guidelines. Serves as an advisor to the field office SAC as well as consultant to other senior leadership when needed. Assists in the planning and directing of field office FAMS activities including planning, scheduling, implementing short- and long-term strategic planning, resource management, and all aspects of FAMS law enforcement and investigations when applicable to assigned area of responsibility. Work is typically governed by established policies, procedures, and organizational objectives that frequently leave room for discretion. Resolves all but unique problems without intervention of higher-level management. Regularly called upon to identify problem areas and to develop and recommend new policies and procedures for resolution. Individual and organizational performance is typically reviewed periodically through status reports and performance measures; has discretion to ensure alignment of operations, projects, and/or programs with tactical (short-term) objectives of the major subdivision. Supervisory/Managerial duties includes serving as a first line supervisor for the organization. This includes but is not limited to: assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing and evaluating work and performance of subordinates; approving leave; coaching and developing employees; recommending corrective or disciplinary actions; assisting in budget planning and projecting short-term needs; managing projects within assigned resources; resolving routine problems that typically impact the objectives of the organizational unit; and when required, coordinating with customers outside the immediate organization.
You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National. You must complete a favorable Background Investigation (BI). You must have reached the minimum age (21) at the time of application. Employees who transfer to TSA from an agency that allows employees to maintain an annual leave balance higher than the maximum accumulation for the appointed position will have their leave ceiling set to the maximum accumulation for the appointed position (e.g., United States duty location - 240 hours, foreign duty location - 360 hours, or TSES position - 720 hours). TSA will not make a monetary payment for any leave forfeited under these circumstances.
