The Behavioral Health Care Line (BHCL) at New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is one of the largest clinical care lines within the Southwest Region Veterans Integrated Service Network. The BHCL provides medical and mental health services to Veterans state-wide and the VA catchment area of SW Colorado. The facility is located on a beautiful and well maintained campus in Albuquerque in view of the Sandia Mountains and the nearby Sandia National Laboratories. The Behavioral Health Care Line is seeking a Social Worker for a position in the Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Clinic. The SUD program is well-established and provides behavioral health consultation, assessment, and intervention in collaboration with clinics and providers across the facility. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a multidisciplinary team that provides consultative and treatment services to providers and programs within the medical group. The primary role of the incumbent will be to provide direct clinical, to include psychosocial assessment and treatment planning, brief evidence-based individual and group therapies, crisis intervention, some case management, as well as telephonic assessment and triaging. The incumbent for this position will be able to provide a full range of psychosocial assessments, and interventions within the scope of social work practice. Additionally, the incumbent should possess or be willing to receive training on a variety of evidenced-based treatments (EBTs) relevant to the critical work performed in the Substance Use Disorders Clinic, including CBT for SUD and Motivational Interviewing. The incumbent independently demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the assessment, treatment planning, and management of the complex mental health needs of patients in SUD and the Specialty Section at large as needed. Additionally, they are responsible for identifying and screening patients for the psychosocial needs outlined in their recovery plan. The incumbent must possess the knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities, including SUD-specific evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs), provide counseling or case management for individuals, families, and groups.
