Remote Medical Billing Specialist (Virtual Assistant) – Ophthalmology

Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours/week | 100% Remote

Pay: $ 8 per hour (competitive, based on experience)

About Us

We are an established ophthalmology practice looking for a reliable, detail-oriented medical billing specialist to join our team remotely. You'll play a key role in making sure our claims get paid accurately and on time.

Responsibilities

• Work live on pacific standard time with medical office as billing assistant
• Scrub and submit clean claims to insurance payers
• Post payments and adjustments from EOBs/ERAs
• Identify zero-paid and denied claims and determine the cause
• Prepare and submit appeals for denied or underpaid claims
• Call insurance companies to check claim status and resolve issues
• Follow up on unpaid and aging claims until they're resolved
• Keep accurate notes on all claim activity

Requirements

• Experience in medical billing (ophthalmology or eye care strongly preferred)
• Quick learner
• Medical experience
• Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers
• Experience with denials, appeals, and insurance follow-up
• Comfortable making frequent phone calls to insurance companies
• Clear, professional English communication skills
• Reliable, high-speed internet (required)
• Quiet, dedicated workspace free of background noise
• Available for a full 40-hour work week during our business hours ([time zone])

Preferred

• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
• Familiarity with dr chrono emr
