Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as permanent appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 11.5 months, and you will be in a non-pay status for a minimum of one full pay period per year. Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Interpretation and Communications: Develop and present a wide variety of formal and informal audience and learner-centered interpretive experiences using a variety of fully developed interpretive skills, techniques, and tools delivered in-person and through interpretive media and technology. Visitor Services and Facility Operations: Coordinate and staff a visitor facility and information desk. Training: Guide the learning of others through formal or informal methods. Train, mentor, coach, and evaluate a broad range of interpretive programs and products conducted by fellow interpreters, critique these activities, and recommend individual or program improvements. Education: Develop and deliver in-park, off-site, and virtual education programs that tie NPS resources to education standards and are aligned with the needs of educational organizations and their students. Safety: Promote personal, visitor, and co-worker safety by including risk assessments in all operations decisions and actions. Ensure compliance with existing safety policies and procedures. Customer Service: Demonstrate commitment to providing quality products and services by implementing best practices and recommending solutions to improve existing processes and procedures. Project Coordination: Coordinate the development and implementation of special projects (e.g., special events, youth initiatives, teacher workshops and regional or national committees) from beginning to end. In addition to the major duties: One position will serve as the parkwide Volunteer-in-Parks (VIP) program coordinator responsible for the planning, developing implementing, and evaluating the parkwide VIP program. This will also include the assessment of needs, recruitment, seasonal VIP training, monitoring, overall program evaluation, staying up to date on VIP policy, data management, and logistical planning. The second position will serve as the parkwide Technology, Web, and Social Media coordinator responsible for digital strategies and efforts to implement and sustain existing/new media platforms that achieve park goals and meet audience needs. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Direct Deposit participation required. Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. To learn more, visit www.dhs.gov/EVerify/. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period, during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
