This position is located in Mission Support Services (AJV), Policy Directorate (AJV-P), Rules & Regulations Group (AJV-P2), Airspace Rules & Regulations Team (AJV-P21). AJV-P2 is responsible for providing direction and guidance concerning airspace actions, environmental issues and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) as well as for developing rules, standards and regulatory policy within the National Airspace System (NAS). He/she applies comprehensive technical knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to analyze noise and air emissions and to recommend models and policies to maintain environmental sustainability of the National Airspace System (NAS) and to solve complex problems and develop improved technical processes or systems. He/she applies experience with statutory and regulatory environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act and the National Historic Preservation Act as related to aviation to provide reviews for FAA airspace redesign and procedure development projects concerning air space use and air traffic. This work impacts the objectives of the major subdivision, LOB/SO, and the FAA. In some cases, the work affects the safety of the customers. Broad policies and objectives provide general guidance for addressing issues, but allow considerable discretion to develop new and innovative approaches. He/she develops environmental policy, standards, and guidance and to support other Federal Aviation Administration and Air Traffic Organization offices on environmental matters related to airspace and flight procedure changes within the NAS and to develop solutions to address anticipated problems/issues. Work with management to solve problems. The specialist uses experience with noise and air quality impact evaluation tools such as the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) or the Terminal Area Route Generation Evaluation & Traffic Simulation (TARGETS) program noise screening tool to ensure environmental impacts, enhancements, and protection considerations are fully and properly analyzed. Contacts are internal and external. Often represents FAA as a senior technical point of contact on projects, programs and other work activities. Communicates results to all levels internally (within an LOB/SO or across LOB's/SO's) and externally. Plays a lead role in drafting, reviewing, and editing reports or contractual documents for final approval prior to external distribution. Work is reviewed rarely, typically though status reports and at project completion, to ensure technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity. We are not accepting applications from noncitizens.
