This vacancy is for a GS - 0028 - 9, Environmental Protection Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE BOSTON FACILITIES ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT -F in BOSTON, Massachusetts. You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for managing environmental programs associated with USCG Base Boston and tenant unit operations and to assist in the management of the Environmental Compliance Program throughout the facility.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Assists the on-site Environmental Protection Specialist, GS-11/12, with safety programs, hazardous material/hazardous waste (HM/HW) management, and emergency preparedness. assists in the day-to-day management for pollution spill prevention/response and serving as back-up for the Hazardous Materials Minimization (HazMin) Center. Manages one or more environmental programs, such as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Pollution Prevention Act, Toxic Substance Control Act, Solid Waste Management Act or Clean Water Act and Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Manages and maintains programs, policies and procedures concerning hazardous materials, waste streams, pest management, asbestos, lead based paint and environmental protection. Maintains working knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations for assigned programs. Prepares written plans, and schedules and provides milestones for accomplishing program goals. The COR training and certification will be coordinated by the USCG upon hiring. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
