Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the weapons safety manager and advisor to the Commander, senior leaders, and field safety staff on weapons safety matters. Represents AFMC and manages explosive safety, missile safety, and directed energy safety programs and provides oversight of the nuclear surety program as a part of the overall weapons safety program.
Manages and develops effective command-wide explosives, weapons, missiles, nuclear, and Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) programs in connection with AFMC installations, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and contractor operations, including the application of explosives safety criteria and requirements as an integral part of the mission. Manages the explosives safety program. Develops, approves, and processes all command explosives safety criteria and operations, including explosives site planning processes, standards and requirements. Develops and implements command policy and establishes processes and procedures for the explosives, missiles, nuclear, and DEW programs at all AFMC field activities. Conducts special on-site investigations of explosives, missiles, weapons, nuclear, and DEW mishaps. Assesses mishaps and determines mishap cause, findings, and makes technical recommendations to preclude recurrence of similar mishaps for AFMC-owned assets and for Air Force- wide application. Conducts comprehensive weapons safety staff assistance visits and safety inspections of each AFMC subordinate organization possessing weapons or explosives to ensure compliance with Air Force safety criteria. Represents AFMC on various DoD and Air Force boards, IPTs, working groups, technical interchange and project officer meetings, seminars, and conferences sponsored by Air Force/MAJCOMs/DRUs/FOAs, DoD, other federal agencies, or industry
