Department of Crop and Soil SciencesTechnician (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities Train and supervise junior staff in the proper work methods/procedures and in thepreparation of practicals for students. Conduct, or assist in conducting Crop Sciences and Horticulture laboratory practicals. Source laboratory equipment and consumables. Assist and supervise Teaching Assistants in the performance of their duties. Assist in the setting up of apparatus/preparation of chemical reagents for research andpracticals. Provide technical support and services for academic members of staff and researchers inthe field of Crop Science. Maintain teaching equipment and instrument to ensure accuracy and efficientperformance. Demonstrate the use of equipment and instrument to students and staff. Organise field visits and practicals. Participate in the development of quality standards and programs for the Crop Sciencelaboratories. Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with set standards. Check stocks of consumables and advise on re-order levels.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Science/Horticulture/Biological Sciences or anyrelated field. They should be able to operate the major equipment found in a Crop Science laboratory. The candidate must have at least two years of relevant experience working in a teachinglaboratory at tertiary levels A Master’s degree in the related field will be an added advantage.
